Results available in 2-6 days.

Reference Range

0-2.5 U/L.

Test Methodology

Quantitative Spectrophotometry.

Clinical Utility

CSF Angiotensin Converting Enzyme (ACE) levels may help support the diagnosis of neurosarcoidosis; however, this test is not specific for neurosarcoidosis. In neurosarcoidosis, serum ACE concentrations are less likely than CSF ACE concentrations to be elevated. CSF ACE levels are increased in about 55% of patients with neurosarcoidosis, 5% of those with sarcoidosis (without neurologic abnormality) and 13% of those with other neurological diseases. Levels can be used to evaluate response to treatment.
