Transport: Centrifuged collection tube, refrigerated (2-8°C or 36-46°F). (Minimum Serum: 1.5 mL)
Rejection Criteria
Plasma specimens.
Severely lipemic, icteric, or hemolyzed specimens.
In-Lab Processing
Let specimen clot 30-60 minutes then immediately centrifuge to separate serum from cells. Room temperature is acceptable for a maximum of two hours. (Minimum Serum: 1.5 mL)

Reference Range
Units: Index Value (IV).
Negative: Less than or equal to 0.89.
Equivocal: 0.90-1.09.
Positive: Greater than or equal to 1.10.
Test Methodology
Chemiluminescent Immunoassay. Measures IgG and IgM antibodies to VIsE (variable major protein-like sequence, expressed) protein antigen of Borrelia burgdorferi in human serum.
Interpretation
A negative test result indicates that both IgG and IgM are negative. A positive test result indicates that IgG, IgM, or both are positive. All positive and equivocal results are sent out for Lyme Immunoblot testing. Prompt antibiotic treatment can interfere with specific antibody responses.
Clinical Utility
This assay aids in the diagnosis of infection with B. burgdorferi.
