Instructions

If Microbiology testing is requested on the same specimen, a proper Microbiology Request Form must accompany the specimen in addition to a completed Pathology Requisition Form.

Specimen Collection Criteria

Collect: Lymph Node Tissue, submitted fresh on a saline-dampened Telfa pad (not floating), in a sterile collection container.

Transport specimen STAT to the Anatomic Pathology Laboratory.

Rejection Criteria

  • Specimens submitted in a fixative.
  • Specimens received without the proper paperwork as described in Instructions above.

In-Lab Processing

Gross dictation, tissue processing and microtomy are performed routinely. If necessary, special procedures are ordered by the pathologist, including but not limited to: special stains, flow cytometry, immunohistochemistry, ER/PR studies, etc.

Storage

Specimen Stability for Testing:

Specimens are processed immediately upon receipt in the Laboratory.   

Specimen Storage in Department Prior to Disposal:

Any unprocessed surgical specimen is placed in 10% Neutral Buffered Formalin and disposed after 4 weeks from receiving date.

Performed

Monday – Friday, 8:00 am – 3:30 pm unless otherwise scheduled with Anatomic Pathology Services.
Results are available within 24–48 hours unless special study is required.

Test Methodology

Routine processing. Hematoxylin and Eosin stained slides; special staining procedures as needed.

Interpretation

Diagnosis performed by the board certified pathologist.
